The studio offers a range of conservation and restoration services. These include improving the appearance and presentation of works on paper, preserving and protecting artworks or archival material for the long-term, and adding value to investments through conservation treatment.
The following treatments are carried out at Graham Bignell Studio:
Cleaning to remove dirt, accretions and mould
Removal of old acidic mounts and backings
Removal of tapes, hinges and adhesives
Removal or reduction of stains, tidelines, mount burn, discolouration and foxing spots
Repair of tears, holes and losses
Flattening of creased, undulating, cockled or rolled papers
Consolidation of flaking media
In-painting or retouching
Lining of fragile or fragmented objects
Lining of large posters, plans and maps
Flattening, repair and mounting of parchment, including repair of wax seals
Mounting and housing of paper objects using conservation grade materials
Framing: the studio works with conservation grade framers
We also undertake on-site conservation surveys, prepare condition reports, provide advice and recommendations on storage and display, and can offer an emergency response service
